It has a good atmosphere - winter in a small town with decaying homes. The primary actors are good, but the whole enterprise is hurt by the vague ending. I am not objecting to an ending where the bad guys win - sometimes they do. The dynamic duo's thought processes are prominent in their discussions throughout the film, but at the climax, there is no further discussion except "Bye, I'm leaving town. I guess the writer was trying to be cool by leaving us hanging, but I require some sort of resolution. I loved all the characters because they were just everyday-looking people, not Hollywood gorgeous. Yeah, like she's going to sit her gun down and - without first confirming that the definitely dangerous sociopath has actually left the building - continue her search mere moments after he begins to descend the stairs. Then upon finding the thing she's looking for, she's going to *sit there and absentmindedly sift through it right then and there?* While apparently forgetting what spacial awareness is entirely so the dude can creep up right on to her? Good lord this frustrates me to no end. Total destroys the immersion because no sane person, much less a person who is clearly as capable "on-it" as this character is otherwise, would do things this way. This is just one of several tired tropes which were employed here and there throughout the film that really irked me about the writing of the characters, specifically Lisa. Not a bad movie though.
