A movie worth watching to remind us of the inhumane conditions our ancestors faced and over came - and this is but a snippet. White skinned people of that era and some still today were evil through and through. May God have mercy on their ancestors that now they know better can walk this earth and do better to their fellow humans.. May we as black people maintain forgiveness in our hearts for the wrongs our ancestors faced and live a life worthy of the freedom they forth for to ensure we have a better life. There are always going to be those who REFUSE to acknowledge the unique brutality of American chattel slavery. History has recorded over thousands of years that indentured servitude was common around the world. Africans did in fact enslave each other, but they weren't brutalizing and killing for sport. When battles were won between tribes, captives were taken and put to use. It's not to say that bad things didn't happen, but American chattel slavery was particularly disgusting. If you even care to know, the brutality and evil go FAR DEEPER than what most people in this country are even aware of. Now about Africans selling each other to the Europeans and Muslims... This happened. But those who are bound to patriotism and who want to keep claiming that black folks act like victims, the history is far more nuanced than they will ever care to know. Africans absolutely opened Pandora's box by selling others into slavery, but it becomes nuanced because the Portuguese and other Europeans kept demanding more and more. As a result, many "sales" were FORCED and there were in fact villages that were raided. Don't believe me? Go to Ghana, Senegal and other western nations in African and talk to the historians there... As someone who has been to African more than once, the natives do tell a different and more in depth story than the one that extreme patriots love to cling to. These types of folks who scoff at movies like this one, and who just seem to have a continual grievance and ought against black people, will continue to downplay the slavery history in this country due to extreme patriotism, possible shame and outright ignorance. There is no "narrative" to uphold, just true history. People like to bring up the Irish who were INDENTURED SERVANTS who came voluntarily. They were heavily present in the West Indies back in the 1600s. It is an outright LIE to claim that the Irish were slaves.
