It's an outstanding film, that gets under the veneer of the historical picture of the War. It gives a feeling of the airborne warfare, the trauma of being borne down on by these huge planes and the fragility of the exposed pilots to bombardment, machine gun fire and engine fires. The callousness of the commanding classes, and the realities of PTSD that were just not acknowledged. The effects are impressive for the 70s as well.>> <<@maureenball6733 says : Lovely film to someone who grew up with Biggles. But though WE Johns shows bad times and loss of comrades this film shows much more especially of class and division between our own. Must have been the same with the German side if tou believe Blue Max. I find this one a bit sad.>> <<@amafirenze-vi1uh says : Thank you for this movies. It is shown frequently on italian tv but, incredibly, it's cut immediately after the last tragic air battle and I never saw the final scene with McDowell and the new recruits.
